Can It Be Two Years Already?

“When you have eaten and are satisfied, you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you. Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes which I am commanding you today…”  Deuteronomy 8:10-11

A quick search for “Bible verses about remembering” brings up at least 71 references. Not only does God remember His promises, but His people are to remember Him and what He has done. This month’s blog post is to pause and reflect upon our first two years of serving students at Nashville Dyslexia Center.

Our official two-year anniversary is June 19. I’m sure every business owner could say this, but a lot has happened during these two years! We began our business under a different name, Cornelius Learning Center. The name was meaningful to us, but we realized students wouldn’t be able to find us easily. Therefore, we changed our name to Nashville Dyslexia Center to better represent who we are and what we do. If you haven’t heard about the story behind NDC, watch a short video here.

During the first year of business, I was still teaching full time as a second grade teacher at a local private school. I tutored my dyslexia students on the side. Leaving the classroom was not easy, but I knew I would be more effective in helping struggling readers by offering one-on-one instruction.

Over the last 24 months, we have added three tutors to our staff. Each of these wonderful ladies has a degree in education and a passion to help students of all ages. We are so grateful for them!

Finally, we transitioned to teaching remotely without losing one session! Just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit, we began transitioning to online tutoring. It’s working very well! Using Zoom and Whizzimo, we teach the exact same lessons as we did in person. Our tutors and our students stay safe and healthy at home, and the students continue to make progress!

To all the Nashville Dyslexia Center families, thank you! We consider it an honor and a privilege to teach your child to read and spell. We recognize that tutoring takes time, commitment, energy, and financial resources. We are committed to this journey with you. We want you to know that we think your child is incredibly SMART and has great things ahead!

To anyone who needs help with reading and spelling, reach out. We’re here to provide hope and help.  We’re here to listen and work with you to figure out the right next steps for your child.
